In theory, there exists no difference between the two.
However, children exhibit allergies to numerous foods and respiratory allergens
at different stages in their growth – since allergic status changes with advancing
age. If your child is repeatedly
developing allergy symptoms such as congestion, itchy eyes, skin rashes, runny
nose and wheezing, allergy may be a contributing factor. Babies generally are free of the kinds of
symptoms we associate with allergy – but research has shown that allergies
start early in life and can be detected even before symptoms appear. As for
adults, there may be less body tolerance to allergens, but a higher tolerance
level to the associated symptoms.
Laboratory testing can provide valuable information to help determine
whether an adult or child is allergic to a particular substance, and how to
best manage the condition. Without determining one’s status, allergic disease
can get worse and can have profound effects on the physical and emotional
quality of life.
What allergy tests can be done?
The blood test for allergies is referred to as an in vitro
specific IgE antibody test (also known as the RAST panel). This test determines
the amount of allergy-type antibodies in the bloodstream that in turn.
