الوصف
Salicylic acid is the major hydrolysis product of acetylsalicylic acid. It is an analgesic, antiplatelet, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic drug. Symptoms of intoxication include vertigo, hearing loss, GI disturbances and bronchospasm, central hyperventilation, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis (>400 mg/L), hyperglycaemia (early) and hypoglycaemia (late). Use of antacids, which increase renal excretion, can lower serum levels.

Measurement of Salicylic acid level is used to monitor the dose of the drug in order to avoid its toxic effect.

Optimal sampling time is 1-3 hours after dosage. Time to reach peak serum concentration is 1-2 hours after dose administration.
