PCR offers great promise as a highly sensitive and specific technique for the detection of Helicobacter pylori. A potential advantage of PCR is that it may enable the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori to be made non-invasively by detecting Helicobacter pylori DNA in non-gastric fluids such as saliva.
