Description
PCR testing for H pylori has a sensitivity and specificity range of 85–96 and 90–100, respectively.
Indications
PCR offers great promise as a highly sensitive and specific technique for the detection of H. pylori. However, accuracy of such techniques varies widely due to the choice of primers and target DNA, specimen preparation, bacterial density, and technical issues. A potential advantage of PCR is that it may enable the diagnosis of H. pylori to be made non-invasively by detecting H. pylori DNA in non-gastric fluids such as saliva.
