Atopic allergic conditions such as asthma, allergic rhino-conjunctivitis, and atopic eczema, as well as other immediate-type allergies, are characterised by an increase in circulating allergen-specific IgE antibodies.

The early diagnosis of IgE-mediated allergic disease to direct early intervention may prevent disease progression and the development of chronic illness. This test allows an objective assessment of a given patient's allergic status with respect to the suspected allergen.
