Aspergillus Antibodies IgG & IgM, Serum

الوصف

Aspergillus is a ubiquitous soil-dwelling organism found in organic debris, dust, compost, foods, spices, and rotted plants. Most species are non-pathogenic however, Aspergillus fumigatus, A. “avus, and A. niger have been described in disease conditions. Infection is mainly acquired by inhalation of air-born spores. The most common form of infection is aspergilloma, or fungal ball, usually developing in a lung cavity. Chronic Necrotising Aspergillosis, also called semi-invasive aspergillosis, is an indolent, destructive process of the lung due to invasion by Aspergillus spp. Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is the more severe form of infection usually associated with neutropenia or HIV infection. Finally, Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis is a hypersensitivity reaction to Aspergillus antigens, mostly due to A. fumigatus seen in patients with long-standing asthma or cystic fibrosis.

دواعي الإستعمال

This test is useful aid in the diagnosis of aspergilloma, Chronic Necrotising Aspergillosis and Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis. However, it is not very helpful in the diagnosis of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis perhaps due to accompanying immune disorders.
