The chlamydiae are non-motile, gram-negative obligate intracellular bacterial pathogens. C. trachomatis is the most common sexually transmitted bacterial disease. Although the major impact of disease caused by C. trachomatis is on the female reproductive tract, this agent also causes infections in men and children. Most infections caused by C. trachomatis in women are asymptomatic, nonetheless, clinical manifestations include cervicitis, urethritis, endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or abscess of the Bartholin glands.
دواعي الإستعمال
Since Chlamydia mainly causes infection of mucus membranes, the detection of specific IgA antibodies indicates current infection and is superior to using IgM specific antibodies as an indicator of acute / current infection.
