Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), formed in the kidney, is the nuclear androgen in the gonads and in other organs. It is a potent sexual hair growth factor. In males, DHT is formed peripherally from testosterone and is important for prostate development and the masculinisation of the external genital in the embryonic stage. In females, it is formed from androstenedione.
دواعي الإستعمال
Congenital DHT deficiency as a result of 5-α-reductase deficiency in males causes under virilisation with features ranging from almost normal female phenotype to clear cut male phenotype with hypospadia. Increased production of tissue DHT is associated with hirsutism; however, serum DHT levels remain normal.
