الوصف

Fecal Calprotectin is a calcium and zinc binding protein and considered a biochemical test for inflammatory bowel disease. It can assist in replacing the need for invasive colonoscopy. Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are a group of conditions that cause pathological inflammation of the bowel wall. Neutrophils influx into the bowel lumen as a result of the inflammatory process. The main diseases that cause an increased excretion of faecal calprotectin are Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and neoplasms (cancer). Levels of fecal calprotectin are normal in patients with irritable bowel syndrome(IBS). Calprotectin can also aid in assessing the efficacy of IBD treatments and predicting relapses or flares of IBD.
