Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (ɣ-GT), Serum/Plasma

الوصف

ɣ-Glutamyl Transferase (ɣ-GT) is an enzyme that is involved in the transfer of amino acids across the cellular membrane. It is also responsible for the extracellular catabolism of the glutathione, the main thiol antioxidant in mammalian cells. ɣ-GT is present on the surface of the cell membrane and in serum.

دواعي الإستعمال

Serum ɣ-GT determination is widely used as a diagnostic test for hepatobiliary diseases and alcohol abuse. Serum ɣ-GT has been found to predict morbidity and mortality independent of alcohol consumption and liver pathology. Moreover, Serum ɣ-GT is recognised as an independent prognostic marker both for overall and cardiac mortality. Serum ɣ-GT level is influenced by a variety of conditions including certain medications and several disorders of non-alcoholic origin. Normal levels vary with sex, age, and body weight.
