Useful in diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and some renal diseases. Increased value is an evidence of glucose intolerance. Decreased value is found in cases of galactosaemia and is commonly secondary to previous gastrointestinal surgery.

Separate serum within 30 minutes from blood collection. Collect specimen 2 hours after eating a meal, timed from the start of the meal; adequate meal or 75-gram glucose load, as specified by patient’s physician.

Normal: < 140 mg/dL Impaired: 140-199 mg/dL
