Glutathione Reductase, Blood

الوصف

Glutathione reductase (GR) is an ubiquitous enzyme associated with the hexose monophosphate shunt of glucose metabolism. It catalyses the reduction of oxidised glutathione (GSSG) with the concomitant conversion of NADPH to NADP+. Reduced glutathione (GSH) is involved in a number of reactions where it reduces several cellular components. In red cells, this reaction is of special significance because it is required for the stability and integrity of the red cells. Flavin adenine dinucleotide is an essential cofactor for maximal GR activity.

دواعي الإستعمال

GR deficiency has been reported in several populations and may be due to either nutritional deficiency of riboflavin, which leads to an acquired deficiency of GR or due to a mutation in the GR gene which results in GR variants with low activity. Low levels of GSH are associated with drug-induced haemolytic anaemia.
