The Nitroblue Tetrazolium dye reduction test is useful for the diagnosis of chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), a heterogeneous disorder of phagocytes which results in the failure of phagocytes to kill ingested microorganisms, thus predisposing patients to severe, recurrent pyogenic infections. If the patient has chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), the cells are unable to reduce NBT and no deep blue colour is observed.

Increased in bacterial infection, myeloid leukaemia, trauma and acute infarction. Decreased in chronic granulomatosis.

3 ml EDTA Whole Blood Room Temperature

Samples must be received and tested within 24 Hrs of collection, preferably in the morning. Avoid clotted and frozen samples.
