Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 1, Plasma

الوصف

Plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI)-1, the main inhibitor of the fibrinolytic system, is essential for maintaining homeostasis and preclusion of induction of a bleeding diathesis. As a member of the serine proteinase inhibitor superfamily, PAI-1 is a potent, fast-acting and irreversible inhibitor of tissue PA (tPA) and urokinase type PA (uPA). Thus, it limits the dissolution of fibrin and consequently, clots by the fibrinolytic system in the blood. See Also Tissue Plasminogen Activator (tPA), Plasma

دواعي الإستعمال

Elevated PAI-1 in blood is a risk factor and a determinant of an initial acute myocardial infarction. Increased PAI-1 in blood facilitates persistence of microthrombi and a prothrombotic state. High levels of LDL, triglycerides and free fatty acids (all associated with diabetes), increase and augment PAI-1 and contribute to the risk associated with high PAI-1 levels. In addition, there is evidence suggesting that elevated PAI-1 levels may play a role in the pathogenesis of stroke.
