The test is intended to detect the presence of IgA antibodies against Tissue Transglutaminase which is associated with Celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis.Celiac disease patients may suffer from diarrhea, various gastrointestinal problems, anemia, fatigue or they may be asymptomatic. The enzyme
tissue transglutaminase has been reported to be the main target for endomysial antibodies where these antibodies fall once a gluten-free diet has begun thus facilitating monitoring of dietary compliance.

An increased IgA level represents an active stage and/or recent exposure to Celiac disease.
