Description
17-Ketosteroids (hydroxyetiocholanolone, epiandrosterone, aetiocholanolone, DHEA, hydroxyandrosterone and androsterone) are formed from the metabolism of testosterone, cholesterol-like substances and 17-hydroxycorticosteroids.
Indications
Increased values are associated with testicular and ovarian tumours, adrenal hyperplasia, and adrenal carcinoma. An elevated 17-Ketosteroid value may also be seen in cases of Cushing Syndrome and Polycystic ovarian disease. Decreased values are associated with primary and secondary hypogonadism, hypopituitarism and Addison’s disease.
