Adenovirus Antibodies, IgG, Serum

Description

Adenoviruses, a group of non-enveloped DNA viruses with at least 45 serotypes, are important respiratory pathogens affecting individuals of all ages and accounting for 7 to 10% of all respiratory illnesses in infants and children.

Indications

Adenovirus respiratory tract infections occur sporadically, epidemically, and nosocomially and present in a wide spectrum of distinct clinical syndromes ranging from self-limited acute pharyngitis to fatal pneumonia. In addition, adenovirus has been identified as an etiological factor associated with exacerbation in individuals with chronic obstructive lung diseases. The presence of IgG antibodies to adenovirus indicates past infection. Rising IgG titres suggest acute or current infection.
