Description
Bence Jones proteins, or monoclonal free light chains of immunoglobulins, are produced by neoplastic plasma cells. They were first described in the urine of a patient with multiple myeloma. See Also Kappa & Lambda Light Chains, 24 Hour Urine
Indications
In addition to multiple myeloma (malignant proliferation of plasma cells in bone marrow, derived from a single abnormal clone) and other plasma cell dyscrasias, free light chains are also associated with other abnormalities of the immune system, including leukaemia, lymphoma, and autoimmune and infectious diseases.
