Description
CA 72-4 is a high-molecular weight mucin glycoprotein that is detectable in the sera of patients with a variety of gastrointestinal adenocarcinomas and carcinomas of the ovary. CA 72-4 is not expressed
by non-epithelial tumours such as melanomas, sarcomas, tumours of neural crest derivation, leukaemia and lymphoma and is only weakly expressed in malignant mesotheliomas.
Indications
CA 72-4 is a reliable marker in gastric cancer. Postoperative serial sampling of CA 72-4 may facilitate early identification of recurrences.
