Description
Anti Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide (CCP) antibodies (citrulline is a posttranslational modification of the amino acid arginine by the enzyme peptidylarginine deaminase) are autoantibodies found in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Indications
Anti-CCP antibodies are efficient diagnostic markers for the diagnosis of RA with a specificity of > 95%. There is evidence that the combined testing for anti-CCP with IgM rheumatoid factor (RF) has a prognostic value; the presence of anti-CCP antibodies and IgM RF is associated with a higher probability of radiological signs of joint damage.
