Enterovirus IgM, Serum

Description

The Enterovirus IgM, Serum test detects IgM antibodies against enteroviruses in the blood. IgM antibodies are usually produced early in an infection, indicating a recent or acute enterovirus infection. Helps in the diagnosis of recent enterovirus infections, which can cause conditions such as hand-foot-and-mouth disease, viral meningitis, myocarditis, or other systemic infections. Useful in differentiating acute infection from past exposure (which would be indicated by IgG)
