Factor XII Assay, Plasma

Factor XII is a serine protease precursor that is primarily produced and secreted by hepatocytes and is involved in the initiation of the intrinsic coagulation pathway, in fibrinolysis, in the generation of bradykinin, and in the complement system.

Factor XII deficiency leads to prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). However, affected patients do not show bleeding tendency. Rather, they show thromboembolic predisposition.
