Fat (Sudan III), Stool

Faecal fat is measured to aid diagnosis of conditions causing poor absorption of dietary fat resulting in steatorrhea.

The value of this test is that the amount of dietary fat intake is known and used in evaluation of the results. Increased levels are found in cases of pancreatic and intestinal diseases resulting in dietary fat malabsorption.
