Fructosamine, Serum

Fructosamine assay is a measurement of glycated albumin or glycated total proteins. It may be used in a manner analogous to the determination of glycosylated Haemoglobin as an index to the mean concentration of glucose in blood during the preceding several weeks.

This test is useful in the assessment of diabetes control especially in diabetic patients with Hemoglobinopathies, which could interfere in the quantitation of glycosylated Haemoglobin HbA1c.
