Description
In addition to glucose control, insulin also controls lipid and protein metabolism, and exerts a determinant role for cell growth and differentiation. The function of insulin is mediated by binding to its receptor expressed on all tissue.
Indications
Insulin levels are increased in insolinoma, non-insulin-dependent diabetes(type II), insulin overdose, liver disease, Cushing’s disease, galactose intolerance, familial fructose intolerance and obesity. Decreased levels are found in untreated or inadequately treated type I diabetes mellitus and hypopituitarism.
