Description
Increased lactate levels can be found in severe muscular exercise, tissue hypoxia, hyperventilation, glucagon, glycogen storage disease, severe anaemias and insulin infusions. Both lactate and pyruvate levels indicate an index of the severity of circulatory failure.
Indications
Lactate measurements can also be useful in cases of angina pectoris or as a liver function test.
