Leukocyte Alkaline Phosphatase (LAP) Score

Description

Activity of Alkaline Phosphatase in leukocytes is virtually restricted to mature neutrophil polymorphonuclear cells.

Indications

LAP score is increased in polycythaemia vera, myelosclerosis, leukaemoid reactions, myeloproliferative disorders, infections, after administration of adrenocortical steroids, carcinomatosis and in Hodgkin’s disease. LAP score is decreased in most cases of chronic granulocytic leukaemia. Reduced LAP activity is also observed in paroxysmal nocturnal Haemoglobinuria and infectious mononucleosis.
