Description
Long chain non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) or free fatty acids in human plasma are derived from adipose tissue stores and represent a major fuel for tissues, especially in the fasted and exercised state.
Indications
High plasma NEFA concentrations are associated with several conditions that convey a high risk of cardiovascular disease, such as diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia. In addition, a high plasma NEFA concentration could be predictive of death from smokingand/ or alcohol-related cancers.
