Indications

Used to confirm pregnancy and to evaluate threatened abortion and trophoblastic tumours. The test detects β-hCG in urine. Sensitivity ranges from the enzymatic (25 lU/L) to the less sensitive latex technique (500 IU/L). False-positive results may be reported with ectopic production of hCG and/or hCG-like substances by neoplasms such as ovarian cysts, testicular tumors and lung carcinomas.
