Prostatic-Specific Antigen (PSA), Free, Serum/Plasma

Description

PSA that reaches the serum is either free or bound to plasma proteins includingα-1-antichymotrypsin, α-2macroglobulin, and α-1antitrypsin. In men with prostate cancer, there seems to be a lower proportion of free PSA and this is expressed as a decrease in the F/T PSA ratio.

Indications

The combination of Free and Total PSA improves the specificity to prostate cancer especially in patients with total PSA levels between 4-10 ng/ml.

Sample Type, Quantity & Conditions

1 ml Serum 1 ml Li-Heparin or K2/K3-EDTA Plasma Stability: 5 Days at 2-8 °C 3 Months at -20 °C
