Selenium has been shown to be a nutritionally essential trace element to mammals, including humans. Selenium is an integral part of glutathione peroxidase, an antioxidant enzyme, as well as several other seleno-proteins.
Indications
Health conditions such as immune function, viral infection, reproduction problems, mood disorders, skeletal myopathy and macrocytosis, seizures, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, increased severity of infectious diseases such as Keshan disease, an endemic cardiomyopathy, and Kashin-Beck disease, a deforming arthritis have been linked to selenium deficiency.
