Indications
The measurement of incresed levels of thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies in serum can be useful in the assessment of a number of thyroid disorders. More than 90% of patients with autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis) have thyroglobulin or TPO antibodies. Antibodies to TPO have also been found in most patients with idiopathic hypothyroidism, Graves’ disease and less frequently in patients with other thyroid disorders.
