الوصف
Semen analysis is conducted to assess male fertility potential by examining various parameters of the semen and spermatozoa. The analysis typically includes measurement of semen volume, sperm concentration (count), motility (the ability of sperm to move effectively), and morphology (the size and shape of sperm). Macroscopic examination assesses semen color, volume, viscosity, pH, and liquefaction time. Microscopic evaluation quantifies sperm concentration, motility progression, viability, and morphology, alongside detection of white blood cells or other abnormal cells. Semen analysis is a vital first-line diagnostic tool in the investigation of male infertility, which accounts for approximately one-third to one-half of infertility cases among couples. Advancements in semen evaluation techniques include computerized systems such as Computer-Assisted Sperm Analysis (CASA), which provide objective, precise, and reproducible assessments of sperm motility and morphology. Additionally, molecular and biochemical assays can evaluate sperm DNA integrity, seminal plasma biomarkers, and function, providing further insights into male reproductive health. Due to natural variability in semen quality, multiple samples collected over time are recommended for accurate assessment. Semen analysis remains a cornerstone in clinical andrology and reproductive medicine to guide diagnosis, treatment, and counseling in male infertility.

Used to investigate and manage male factor subfertility and infertility including oligozoospermia(low sperm count), azoospermia (no sperms), asthenozoospermia (reduced sperm motility) and teratozoospermia (abnormal sperm morphology) which may impair fertilization capability.
