Seminal Fluid Analysis

Description

A semen analysis measures the amount of semen a man produces and determines the number and quality of sperm in the semen sample. A semen analysis is usually one of the first tests done to help determine whether a man has a fertility problem. A problem with the semen or sperm affects more than one-third of the couples who are infertile. Semen analysis aids in the estimation of motility and morphology of spermatozoa, which are closely correlated with fertility.

Indications

Used to investigate and manage male factors of subfertility and infertility including oligozoospermia, azoospermia, asthenozoospermia (reduced sperm motility) and teratozoospermia (abnormal sperm morphology).
