Description
Aldolase is a glycolytic enzyme that has three distinct isoenzymes; aldolases A, B, and C that are synthesised in the muscles, liver, and brain respectively. Aldolase is involved in the metabolism of fructose to yield metabolites that are utilised in the Kreb’s cycle.
Indications
Increased aldolase activity is found in liver cancer, metastasis, and muscular dystrophy. Aldolase activity is decreased or absent in hereditary fructose intolerance and haemolytic anaemia.
