Description

Measures copper concentration in red blood cells by ICP-MS; may reflect intracellular copper status.

Indications

Supports evaluation of copper status/exposure when clinically indicated; interpret with serum copper, ceruloplasmin, dietary history, and clinical context.

Special Precautions

Collect in a trace-metal–free royal-blue EDTA tube. Separate plasma within 2 hours; leave packed RBCs in original tube, refrigerate. Do not use heparin.
