Description

Quantitative measurement of propylene glycol, a solvent/excipient that can accumulate after high-dose IV medications or toxic ingestion.

Indications

Evaluates suspected propylene-glycol exposure/toxicity, especially unexplained high anion-gap metabolic acidosis or hyperosmolality.

Special Precautions

Collect in a preservative-free tube; avoid alcohol-containing skin prep when feasible. Separate promptly and keep refrigerated; document suspected exposure/time.
