Description
Adenovirus type 40 & 41 (Ad40 / Ad41) are second in importance as causative agents of gastro-enteritis after Rotaviruses. Non-pathogenic types of adenovirus may exist in faeces; therefore, the discrimination between Ad40 / 41 and other types is essential for reaching the correct diagnosis.

This test is useful in the diagnosis of infantile gastroenteritis.
