Carbohydrate Antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3), Serum/Plasma

Description

Anti CA15-3 antibodies are directed against epitopes expressed by a group of high molecular weight glycoproteins called polymorphic epithelia mucins, present in mammary epithelial cells and human milkfat globules.

Indications

CA 15-3 levels are increased in advanced breast carcinoma but not in benign breast disease or early breast carcinoma. CA 15-3 levels correlate with disease activity, progression, response to therapy and recurrence after therapy. Serum CA 15-3 is present in a small percentage of healthy females and males. Other conditions in which elevated CA15-3 have been reported include stomach, pancreas, bile duct, colon, thyroid, lung, cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancer.
