Indications
Increased MMA concentrations are considered early indicators of cobalamin deficiency and are used in the differentiation of cobalamin from folate deficiency. MMA levels are also elevated in renal failure, thyroid disease, small-bowel bacterial overgrowth, and rare inborn errors affecting methylmalonate-CoA mutase.
